How does a company get factory authorized?

It may come as a surprise to many as to how an appliance service company becomes factory authorized to work on the appliances. You many think it involves a bunch of training and testing on the manufacturer's product to ensure a competent skillset. Maybe it even involves some sort of tracking of the quality of customer service. The truth is that it doesn't involve any of that. Just about any service company can become factory authorized. All it takes is a call to the manufacturer, and the signing of a few documents.

Why would a company become factory authorized?

There are two potential reasons for this. The first is to have access to the manufacturer's technical support team. However, there are groups that supply the material to service organizations without having to become factory authorized. This is one of the reasons we are part of the United Appliance Servicers Association. The second reason is to be able to perform warranty work on specific brands of appliances. This is generally done at a net loss in revenue for the service company in the hopes of gaining customers through the process. This is one of the industry standards we are fighting back against to demand fair pay from the manufacturer's to offer to fix their appliances under warranty.

Should you worry about getting service from a company that is factory authorized?

The quick answer is no, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't still vet the service company you choose to use. There are plenty of companies out there that unfortunately do not take the time to ensure their technicians are properly trained, and that they are focused in on customer service. At Prism Appliance Repair you can be assured you are going to have top tier customer service from a professional technician that will preform the quality of work you should expect.
